Originally, this traditional Dupont Circle rowhouse was dark and divided into small discreet spaces. KUBE opened up the first floor completely, allowing the living room, dining room, and kitchen to flow together as one unified space. The kitchen was completely renovated with new custom maple cabinetry, which runs along a side wall into the dining room as tall storage cabinets, further unifying the two spaces. Materials include concrete countertops for their earthiness and warmth, and frosted glass backsplashes for their lightness and reflectivity. The rear wall was opened up with full-height glazing to a new ipe rear deck, creating a direct connection between indoor and outdoor space. The upper levels of the house were also renovated, with new modern bathrooms, lighting, window treatments, hardware, paint and furnishings. The result is a sophisticated modern interior which respects its existing traditional enclosure.
